#11/12 Seeded Teams
#12 1927 St. Louis Browns
Original Season Record: 59-94, .386, 7th place, AL
Star Attractions: The Browns were a potent offensive team led by HOF first baseman George Sisler, who led the AL with 27 SB and led the team with a .327 batting average and 97 RBI.
Also Featuring: The outfield supplied offensive production with LF Ken Williams hitting .322 with a team best .928 OPS and 17 home runs. CF Bing Miller was close behind Sisler with a .325 batting average and the two tied for the team lead with 32 doubles.
Potential Pitfalls: While St. Louis might slug its way to some victories it is hard to win consistently with a 4.95 team ERA, the worst of any 1927 team. They also may have the worst middle infield of any of the 132 teams in the competition, both offensively and defensively. Even with some potent bats in their lineup, their is a precipitous drop off in production when you get to the bottom third of the batting order, often giving opposing pitchers a way out of jams.
#11 1941 Philadelphia Athletics
Original Season Record: 64-90, .416, 8th place, AL
Star Attractions: The A`s boast a pretty impressive outfield with both Bob Johnson and Sam Chapman hitting 20-plus homers and knocking in more than 100 runs apiece, and combining to score 195 runs too.
Also Featuring: Three Athletics hit for a better than .300 batting average, with 1B Dick Seibert leading the way, hitting .334, while OF Wally Moses led the team with a .388 on-base percentage in addition to a .301 average.
Potential Pitfalls: The A`s were dead last in the AL with a 4.83 team ERA, and while they were better offensively, they were still just 5th out of 8 AL teams in runs scored and homers, and last overall in the AL standings.
